Here's a story for you. πŸŒ„ We really wanted to Here's a story for you. πŸŒ„

We really wanted to find a beautiful look out with a rockpool that we had seen on Instagram in Lamington National Park. When we got to the carpark the sun was just over an hour from setting. We were so excited and Jack kept saying that this would be an adventure worth remembering. We hiked for an hour and a half down hill on a half a metre wide path, only to find this epic look out, but no rock pool.

We hung out in this spot for a while until we realised that we had no torches and the sun had gone down. The path to this point was soggy, we climbed over twisted root systems and fallen trees, there were spider webs and we crawled under a small waterfall (and yes I was wearing a denim skirt and thongs). It was 2 minutes after this shot that we knew we were in a smidge of trouble.

The trek back up to the carpark was entirely uphill and ended up taking us two hours after the sun had gone to get out of there.

We relied on our phone torches with 25% battery left. We quickly realised that the National Park became a wild and dangerous place after dark... and giant cane toads came out to invade every couple of metres of our walk.

There was one point where Jack, who was leading in front said, "Watch that rock." For the record, the rock moved and I screamed so loud that it echoed through the park and birds took flight in great numbers. I swear I saw a snake, there were massive spiders, bats and bugs, moths flew at our phone torches, things we couldn't see moved in the bushes next to us, our footing slipped and I was certain we had taken a wrong turn because nothing looked familiar. I was also sure we were going to need to call a full scale rescue if I didn't have a heart attack before hand.

We eventually made it, fell on the grass and kissed the ground. I think I also cried. YOLO expedition definitely turned out to be one to remember... and the worst part was... that the track we were on was never going to lead to the rockpool lookout because we were on the wrong side of the mountain. πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Shout outs to all my new followers! Thanks for being here. πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹ This is more than just a candle business page, it's a mixture of my personal travel posts, candles, you'll find some cracker sunset posts and if you keep an eye on my stories, it's mostly me being an idiot in the studio, stalking other people's dogs and a whole heap of adventure posts. πŸ˜…

Going to share a few random things about me and I'm in the mood for a chat so I'd loveee it if you shared something we have in common. I love having a chin wag with my followers at markets so if we haven't met in person yet, hit comment and chat away. ⬇️

I'd like to think that if I woke up here, my days I'd like to think that if I woke up here, my days would be super productive ✨

What kick starts your morning routine?

I'm a sucker for making a coffee and going back to bed, then spending an hour on IG. A habit I'm going to ditch this week! I'm going to trade it for a coffee then a morning walk at the beach instead. πŸ’™
Our little coconut shells are sourced from coconut Our little coconut shells are sourced from coconut plantations in Vietnam. 🌴πŸ₯₯Normally the farmers stack them in huge piles and burn them, which is not a sustainable practice, which is why I have teamed up with them to make a small difference by upcycling them into coconut candles. 🧑 Each coconut is unique and has a custom made stand. They are handstamped, filled with soy wax and burnt by a bamboo wick. When they are finished as candles, you can upcycle them again into the cutest planters or you can literally bury them in the garden so they can decompose naturally. 🌿 They are also appropriate for your green garden bin. πŸ₯°

I'm hoping to buy my first house in the next year so I've been obsessed at scrolling house inspo, checking out beautiful homes on realestate.com.au and dreaming of renovating tired looking homes. 🧑

Something I've noticed is that I'd prefer an old home with character and space than a new home on a tiny block. I've also noticed I'm a little dreamer and never think practically, rationally or logistically. πŸ˜… I dream of a lived in, cosy beach house with a beautiful balcony, views of cliffs or the coast, overlooking the ocean and a studio out the back. 🌊 That's what always draws me to the southern beaches like Port Noarlunga, Sellicks, Port Elliott, Middleton etc.

I wanna know, did you build, buy, renovate? What draws you to a space? What's your dream house story? 🏑

AND REMEMBER WHO THE HELL YOU ARE!

I knew it wouldn't feel enough just donating money to those affected by the bushfires (even though the $$$$ went to many worthy causes). I spent the last few days looking at the many ways I can donate my time and energy to help. Out of nowhere a good friend asked if I would consider being a 🦘 volunteer wildlife member 🐨 and undertake training to be a wildlife carer πŸ¦‰ with Fauna Rescue SA... Um 100% YES! 🐾

Many long term followers and friends know that I frequently care for sick or injured wildlife (mostly birds or lizards). 🌿 Heck, those closest to me know that I catch spiders, beetles and ants that find their way inside and release them to the safety of a tree or plant. πŸ˜… I'm excited to have some proper training so I know exactly what to do with a range of species; most importantly to be available to assist during emergencies like what we are currently experiencing. πŸ™Œ

It's not just our money that counts. It's donating time, lending a hand and being a voice to create change. I only wish I had made this decision earlier. 🧑

Australia. πŸ‡πŸ‡² We stand together, joining for Australia. πŸ‡πŸ‡² We stand together, joining forces to show the world what people power is all about. In true Aussie spirit, the remarkable stories of courage, selflessness, willpower and generosity are inspirational.

I have watched this nightmare unfold with you. I have been bewildered by the stories of absolute terror and destruction. The feeling of helplessness is a gut wrenching lump of emotion and I can't shake it. There's SO many people and animals that need help that it's overwhelming.

I've donated what I can to the following charities (links in the comments):
@cfsfoundation ❀
South Australian Veterinary Emergency Management (SAVEM) 🐾
@kiwildlifepark Help Save Kangaroo Islands Koalas and Wildlife 🦘 Go Fund Me page 🐨
@adelaidehillswine Adelaide Hills Wine Region Fire Appeal Go Fund Me page 🍷

As time goes on I will donate to more causes. As a primary school teacher there are ways to support and educate. πŸ“š I am in a position to teach the next generation about the eco-system and help them to embed sustainable practises. 🌐 I'm an active part of the Pinery Fire Revegetation Project. 🌿 We grow native seedlings to help rejuvenate fire affected areas. As a business I will continue to support other businesses. I've also wish to train as a volunteer wildlife carer in the future. 🐾

On behalf of the business, I feel it is insensitive to donate money from future sales (especially being candles). I have instead, donated a large percentage of the sales made from December in the lead up to Christmas. πŸ’°

I would like to use this platform to encourage you to donate money directly towards those in need. Do your research. Donate what you can. Beyond rebuilding, communities need long term support to get back on their feet. Supporting Australian and local will make more difference now than ever before. πŸ™Œ Be an advocate for mental health and wellbeing programmes. Get behind initiatives to bring communities closer together. A phone call, letter, message, hug, invitation to a gathering or moral support to rebuild will be those small things that help people through their toughest days. 🧑

Keep fighting Australia.

Some say I'm crazy for not setting new year's resolutions, but is it really the only time of the year that you can make goals? Heck to the no it ain't! I'm all about reflection to enable change for the better. This year has to be one of the best years for growth and clarity. I'm pretty excited to enter the next decade with a mindset that screams, GOOD THINGS ARE COMING! 🎊

Towards the end of this year I was so time poor that I lost track of my whole sense of self. I felt like I was one of those wind up toys.

1. Wake up at 5am
2. Coffee
3. Drive (for hours *insert more coffee*)
4. Teach (and be everything as a teacher - 'mum', counsellor, growth coach, entertainment provider, paperwork slave and number one fan to 28 phenomenal pre-adolescents)
5. Post office runs
6. Get home
7. Eat dinner while switching over to business mode
8. Nomad time (emails, DMs, prep, making, quality control (aka constant monitoring), market planning, keeping up with the Gram)
9. Pass out at 11pm
10. Repeat πŸ’€

Typical me was determined to give everything I put my mind to 100% of my efforts, but after a year of feeling like I was running myself into the ground I decided it was time for change. So I did. πŸ’β€β™€οΈ Next year I'm looking forward to having more time to focus on all things Nomad. I'll be commited to teaching on Mondays and Tuesdays, there will be more consistent Nomad market presence, you'll find Nomads in more carefully selected retail spaces (maybe even my own exclusive space one day), there will be more time for the open road and I'll be able to invest in me. DAMN IT FEELS GOOD TO WRITE THAT! πŸ₯°

Thanks so much for being here to help me make this change. I certainly wouldn't be in a position to do so without your unwaivering support. 🧑 I'm excited and a little nervous but SO god damn ready for this next challenge! Here's to a happier and healthier lifestyle and here's to the next decade @nomadcandleco. 🌴
